Cropping images for use in blog

Hello everyone, I need help. I downloaded some really HD images, and I’d like to crop them for use in a Django blog. So I have two questions:

  1. what’s the best way to crop the images without them really losing quality?
  2. what image size would you recommend I use for images in post_detail (I know you get what I mean)?

#1 You may use Adobe Photoshop or any online source like or

#2 Most blogs have a post area width somewhere between 600px-750px, so sizing your photos to 800px wide should work well on most blogs . #copied from google.

If you want to resize it using Python, check out the PIL library.

This Question from StackOverflow can help too.
